Carls Center for Clinical Care and Education

Carls Center for Clinical Care and Education is a multidisciplinary clinic located in the Health Professions Building on the campus of Central Michigan University offering services in the fields of Audiology, Psychology, and Speech-Language Pathology.  All patient scheduling, record keeping, and billing for the DEER Center are managed by the Carls Center.


Bridges Center for Healthy Life Transitions

The mission of the Bridges Center is to facilitate the improvement of the health and well being of the community and to provide a forum for the development of health care professionals by building relationships or bridges between CMU and the surrounding communities through the:

  • Convening of university and community health and human services professionals to form multidisciplinary partnerships;
  • Integration of university and community expertise and resources;
  • Provision of applied research, educational, clinical and service learning opportunities for students, faculty and health care professionals.

    The DEER Center shares support staff, office space, and coordinates community outreach through the Bridges Center.

AAA Michigan Driving Simulator

Driving simulation in the DEER Center is conducted in the AAA Michigan Driving Simulator. This high-fidelity DriveSafety DS-600 simulator consists of the cab of an economy-sized automobile mounted on a two degree-of-freedom motion base. It has a180 x 60 degree of visual angle forward display and LCD rear-view mirrors.
Simulated driving permits evaluation of situations that older adults commonly have concerns about to be conducted in a safe and controlled environment. The simulator was acquired as a result of the generosity of AAA Michigan, one of the DEER Center partners.

Engineering Psychophysiology Laboratory

Visual function testing and computer-based cognitive function testing are conducted in the Engineering Psychophysiology Laboratory.
